Hi there! My name is Xuekun Liu and I’m the founder of MiauMall as well as MiauBox Japan (Nakama Noodles) and Docobuy!
I wanted to start by saying thank you for visiting the new MiauMall desktop and mobile site! Our teams put a lot of work into creating an improved shopping experience and we all hope that you enjoy it!
I’ve been in Japan since my early teenage years, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve fallen in love with so many Japanese products, like food, snacks and skincare items. I’ve also noticed that Japanese companies and shops sometimes have trouble getting these amazing products sold, or even noticed, by folks living overseas. That was a big part of why we worked together to build the MiauMall platform and app—and a big reason why we’re re-launching our site!
Why the new site?
MiauMall services all kinds of people from all over the world. However, as a Chinese immigrant myself, our app and website were originally designed with Chinese speakers in mind. As our English team grew and as more and more people came to our website, we noticed several shortcomings. The biggest issue was that the old site wasn’t very intuitive for a lot of our customers shopping from Western countries.
So, we wanted to improve upon the overall user experience by making a more intuitive experience from when you land on the sight to when you checkout. We also made sure to improve the pages as much as possible, so everything should be easier to understand for customers regardless of where you’re shopping from.
What’s different?
New System (and New Coupons & Events)
One of the aims of the new site is to create a better system for our Western customer. Instead of ending recreating our old system and leaving our Chinese-speaking customers out in the cold, we decided to make a new, separate system to accommodate our Western base. That means new accounts but also tons of new coupons, referral bonuses and sales and events based around Western holidays.
If you have an account already through the old website or the MiauMall app, you can still make use of it through the app.
Improved shopping flow
We heard what people were saying and we listened. The flow of shopping on the website was a bit counterintuitive. Everything, including the homepage, the categories, the product pages and the checkout process have been improved to make sense for Western audiences.
Improved Interface
We have tons of products, and according to the feedback we’ve received, it was a bit difficult to find and learn more about the products we sell. That’s why we created more easily understandable categories, upgraded our search functionality and crafted clearer product pages that give more of the information that you want when choosing a product.
Blogs
In our app, we would often include small blurbs, but with our new website, we can create blogs that tell you all about Japanese culture, trends, food, makeup, skincare and so much more. Plus, we have an opportunity to showcase and provide in-depth information about some of the amazing brands we work with and the products we recommend!
