Mamoru Tsuchiya — Supervisor: Writer, journalist, and whisky critic. Representative of the Whisky Culture Research Institute. Born in Niigata Prefecture in 1954. Graduated from Gakushuin University, Faculty of Letters. Lived in the UK from 1987 to 1993, gaining deep knowledge of British culture, especially Scotch whisky. In 1998, he was selected by Highland Distillers as one of the “Five Whisky Writers of the World.” He served as whisky supervisor for the NHK morning drama Massan (2014–2015). His many publications include The Complete Guide to Single Malt Scotch, The Complete Guide to Blended Whisky (Shogakukan), and Masataka Taketsuru and Whisky (Tokyo Shoseki). Recent works include The Complete Single Malt Scotch (Revised Edition), Tsuchiya Mamoru’s Whisky Thousand and One Nights, and Japanese Whisky Yearbook (Distillery Almanac).
